WELCOME!
We know that walking into a brand-new environment isn’t
always the easiest thing to do. So before you make a visit, we’d like
you to know where to go and what to expect at Valley Brook.
GETTING HERE
Our church is located at 1198 North Valley Brook Road,
Decatur, GA 30033.
If you are familiar with the area, we are the first road just
east of the Home Depot on Lawrenceville Highway.
Parking is both in the front and side of our facilities.
Our Worship Center is the first building to the left if you park
in front of our three buildings. Or,
if you park on the side of our facilities, the Worship Center is the
last building as you walk under the breeze way.
WHEN TO ARRIVE
If you are planning to visit for the first time, you’ll
want to arrive about 10 minutes before the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service.
Our interim Pastor, John Shinn, would love to meet you before the
service and answer any questions you may have.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
This answer can be summed up in one word: comfortable.
In our services you will find people dressed in everything from casual
to a coat and tie. Wear whatever is most comfortable for you!
WHAT IS A TYPICAL SERVICE LIKE?
Our 11:00 a.m. Worship Services are 60 minutes and are designed to help you connect with God
through prayer, music, “real time” testimonies, and teaching. We
appreciate having different ones lead in prayer and share a real time
testimony of how God is working in their lives.
Each Sunday, our pastor practically applies the Scriptures to
life.
WHAT STYLE OF MUSIC DO YOU HAVE?
Our music is traditional in which we affirm the rich
spiritual heritage of hymns and spiritual songs that emphasizes who God
is, our walk in Christ and the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives.
Our services are thematic so that the music and message unify and
emphasize that theme each week.
WHO IS YOUR PASTor?
Rev. John Shinn is our interim teaching pastor.
He is the person you are most likely to see teaching on a Sunday
morning. We are actively
praying and seeking the Lord’s direction for having a new pastor to lead
us into the new future the Lord has for us.
John retired in 2018 after 45 years in ministry, serving in 4 churches
as a youth pastor, associate and senior pastor. He also taught
Bible in a Christian high school and in the youth ministry and pastoral
tracks at William Tyndale College and served on the Missionary Personnel
Committee with SEND International. John enjoys walking; reading
history, historical fiction and fantasy books; and science fiction
movies. His wife, Donna, an accomplished pianist and piano
teacher, enjoys swimming, reading Christian history, historical fiction
and inspirational books.
They both enjoy hearing the life stories of those they meet.
They moved Decatur to spend time with their daughter and their
two wonderful grandchildren. They also enjoy traveling to New Jersey as
their son, daughter-in -law and two grand dogs reside there.
